Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a customer satisfaction or refund policy?
Before start of training: cancellation within 7 days is possible. After start of training: cancellation in case of illness or other just cause is possible. For details see Terms of Cancellation in training agreement and Policies.

Do I need a home gym in order to train at home?
It is not necessary to have a home gym or any equipment to begin the training. The trainer will bring the tools needed for an effective workout. During the course of training most clients have acquired a heart rate monitor, a stability ball, medicine ball, dumb bells or other small equipment.

Do you provide dietary advice?
Dietary advice should only be given by professional dieticians. Although part of my educational background covered nutrition, I suggest you contact a registered dietitian to jumpstart your diet. My professional expertise is exercise and you will get the best advice from me on this topic.

Do you provide any guarantees on results?
Results depend on the client's commitment to the exercise and lifestyle change.

What makes you different from other fitness trainers?
The question should be, what makes you a good fitness trainer as these are standards that every trainer should follow. The answer is that I am approaching every client individually. Every one of us is unique and so is the training program that you need. I will never engage anyone in unsafe exercises. I am a professional trainer who dedicates every minute of a session entirely to my clients.

What are your qualifications? Have you been professionally trained or certified?
Over 10 years of experience in physical therapy and personal training. See details.

What approach do you take with your clients?
After an initial phone interview I meet with clients for a one to two hour initial evaluation session. During this session we discuss the medical history, the current fitness level, and establish an achievable goal for the coming weeks. Body measurements, a body composition analysis, target heart rate calculation, and the needed paperwork round up the evaluation to be ready to go in session two.

Where do you train your clients? Do you train clients in their own home?
We train clients in their home, their office, outdoors in parks, as well as in certain gyms. We work out at BayfrontTraining in Menlo Park as well as Synergy Studios in San Francisco, and Sportivo Training Center in Redwood City. Other facilities can be chosen, subject to the gym's policy on external personal training.

What is The MovNat Natural Movement Coaching System?
The aim of MovNat is to rediscover, practice and master the movement skills
that are our evolutionary birthright. MovNat is using your body as nature
intended. MovNat is made up of what they call the 3 Pillars. These are: 1)
Natural 2) Evolutionary 3) Situational.

*Natural (Respecting Laws of Nature)*: “MovNat is an environmental-oriented
concept that provides a simple and accessible alternative to anyone
interested in a physical activity that has minimal impact on nature.” Being
stagnant is not natural. The lives we currently live are extremely sedentary
and unhealthy. To become healthy we as a species need to embrace our bodies
for their potential and bring our talents out from hiding.

*Evolutionary (Trusting Our Primal Heritage)*: “The evolutionary philosophy
of MovNat makes us understand how important it is to trust this universal
and primal heritage.” Humans were not created yesterday, we have a long
heritage and have been on this earth for many years. That being said, our
bodies and minds were designed for a different era, an era where we needed
to move to survive. We needed to be able to hunt for our lives, run for our
lives, swim for our live, climb for our lives, lift heavy objects for our
lives, jump for our lives, throw for our lives and simply MOVE for our
lives. Our bodies still have this engrained in them and need to be utilized.
These things haven’t changed.

*Situational (Satisfying Real World Demands)*: “MovNat trains you to become
a well-rounded natural athlete, ready for a wide range of practical actions
in various kinds of situations.” Does it make sense to be able to lift
double your bodyweight and not be able to run 3 miles? Does it make sense to
be able to run a marathon but not be able to lift 25 lbs? Of course not, but
it happens all the time. You need to be able to survive *any *situation
life  throws at us. You need to train your entire body and be ready to live
life.

All these movement activities relate to primal skills: quadrupedal movement
and crawling on the ground could be evading techniques; running and rock
climbing correlate to escape; deadlifting and carrying heavy objects might
relate to rescue; swinging a heavy rock like a kettlebell is associated with
throwing skills and thus attack. By developing these capabilities, one can
develop greater strength and conditioning (a primary outcome), and thus look
and feel better (a secondary outcome). The methods used in Movnat training
do not have the same end-goals as traditional strength and conditioning
programs. Strength and conditioning results (power, strength, speed,
endurance, and so forth) are the outcomes of natural movement, but not the
main goals.

To summarize, MovNat is taking people from their unhealthy sedentary
lifestyles and helping them become a true athlete, a true human, through
education and practice. For more information on Movnat and Methode Naturelle
